The Android Market you’ve grown to know and love is on its way out the door. 聽In its place will be Google Play. 聽Google Play signifies Google’s shift further into the cloud. 聽Of course your apps and games will still be available as they were before, but the biggest difference with Google Play is with media. 聽With Google Play, all media purchases (music, books, and movies) are available in the cloud. 聽In other words, if you purchase music using your phone, it will also be available to be listened to on your computer. 聽The same is true with books and movies, if you purchase them on your phone, they will be available to you on your computer (and vice versa). 聽App purchases will still behave in the same fashion as before. 聽You will still be able to download apps directly on your device, and you will be able to install apps to your device via the Google Play website without using the phone. 聽The Android Market will become the Play Store, and books, music, and movies will be Play Books, Play Music, and Play Movies. 聽Google Play will begin rolling out today, and will be hitting devices “in a few days“.
