At a British business conference, Apple design chief聽Sir Jonathan Ive made it known the iPhone almost did not happen. 聽According to Ive, Apple nearly scrapped the iPhone “multiple times” throughout the development process. 聽The reason for the iPhone’s near scrapping as told by Ive, was due to several fundamental problems encountered by Apple designers. 聽For example, Ive stated聽”with the early prototypes, I held the phone to my ear and my ear would dial the number”. 聽Ive admitted this problem, among others, led them to think “perhaps this isn’t going to work”, and nearly scrap the iPhone before its 2007 release. 聽As hard as it may be to believe, the mercurial iPhone almost never existed, but thankfully Apple did move forward with it, and thus helped to transform the mobile industry into what it is today.
