WeMo

Today Belkin announced their new WeMo product line.  WeMo is a wifi-based product that allows you to turn your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch into a remote control for ordinary household devices.  The way it works is, once the WeMo switch is plugged into a power outlet, the device you would like to control is then plugged into the WeMo.  Once the device is plugged into the WeMo, and the WeMo has been connected to the wifi network, the device that is plugged into the WeMo can be turned on and off using the WeMo app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.  Using the WeMo app, a user can also program the devices to turn on or off on a schedule.  There will be two different WeMo units at launch, the WeMo Switch, and the WeMo switch + Motion.  The WeMo switch is the basic unit that functions as described above.  The WeMo Switch + Motion, is the same as the WeMo switch, but adds motion sensing capabilities.  The WeMo Switch + Motion can sense motion up to 10 feet away, and can be programmed to turn on devices based on motion being sensed.  Pre-Orders for WeMo has commenced today, with the devices set to be released June 26th.
