Do Tablets Really Matter?

Prior to the release of Google’s Nexus 7 tablet, I’d owned just about every high-end tablet there is. 聽Every time I bought one, I wound up returning it for the same reason, it simply wasn’t useful enough to justify the cost. 聽Leading up to the release of the Nexus 7, I figured this would be the tablet for me. 聽Not only would it deliver the high-end specs I’m accustomed to, it would come with a relatively inexpensive price tag. 聽Now that the Nexus 7 has been released, I still have yet to make the purchase, because in the back of my mind, the same problem still remains. 聽I’m not certain a tablet is all that useful. 聽I have a smartphone and an ultrabook, so I don’t know exactly where a tablet fits into the picture. 聽A tablet surely cannot replace my ultrabook, as it cannot do everything an actual computer can do. 聽A tablet certainly cannot replace my smartphone, because in today’s world my smartphone has become a necessity. 聽If I’m at home and want to browse the web on a larger screen, I can easily jump on my ultrabook, and with it’s small footprint, it’s as easy to move around the house as a tablet. 聽When I’m out and about and need the use of a smart device, it’s much easier to whip my phone from its holster, than it is to break out a tablet. 聽It’s much easier to walk around with my smartphone on my hip, than it is to lug around a tablet. 聽In the end, it all comes down to two things for me. 聽A tablet can’t do anything my smartphone can’t do, and it can’t do many things my ultrabook can do, so it is completely unnecessary and not particularly useful. 聽Even the tech junkie in me is having a hard time justifying the purchase of a tablet, and asking the question, do tablets really matter?
