Sidekick 4G Discontinued

T-Mobile has officially discontinued the Sidekick 4G, but has stopped short of discontinuing the Sidekick line as a whole.  In a statement given to The Verge, T-Mobile says “While the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G is being retired, it doesn’t mean we are discontinuing the T-Mobile Sidekick line. T-Mobile continues to update and expand its 4G product portfolio and we’ll keep you posted when we have news to share on T-Mobile’s latest 4G devices.”  After reading that, one word comes to mind…WHY?  In today’s world, with the smartphone landscape the way it is, what is the point of the Sidekick?  It was nice they made an attempt at resurrecting the dead, but in the end it was a failure.  Putting the middle of the road specs to the side, the Sidekick still seemed like an archaic device due to its design.  It simply didn’t seem like a device that belonged in 2011.  It looked like a phone that escaped the past in a time machine.  Unfortunately for T-Mobile, most people aren’t interested in purchasing relics to use as their daily use smartphone.  Bottom line is, unless Samsung plans on drastically revamping the next Sidekick, it will be a waste of time and yet another failure.
