tegra 3

There has been much anticipation of the next generation of smartphones. 聽Much of this excitement is due to the expectation of quad core processors being at the heart of the devices. 聽Up to this point there has not been very much concrete information on when we might be seeing these quad core beasts on the market. 聽That changed today when Nvidia CEO聽Jen-Hsun Huang, got on a conference call to discuss the聽annual and fourth quarter of fiscal 2012 results. 聽During that call he stated “We’re expecting to — Tegra 3 — as you know, Tegra 3 tablets are starting to ramp in the marketplace. But this quarter, we are expecting to announce and ship Tegra 3-based superphones. And they — rumors of them are starting to — and excitement about it is starting to leak, but at Mobile World Congress is when we expect to announce these devices. And we expect to announce and ship them this quarter.” 聽The part of that statement that stands out the most is “we expect to announce and ship them this quarter” as that would imply that the phones would be available no later than March. 聽I’d look for an announcement to be made at Mobile World Congress with a release following short after. 聽Looks like Nvidia is ready to usher in the smartphone era.
