United States Postal Service to Ban International Shipping of Cell Phones and Tablets

In the past, often times the most cost effective way to ship a smartphone or tablet overseas was to use the United States Postal Service. 聽After May 16th, you will now have to seek other alternatives for your international smartphone or tablet shipping needs. 聽As of May 16th, USPS will be instituting a ban on the international shipment of lithium ion batteries, or items containing lithium ion batteries. 聽The ban is due to the suspicion lithium ion batteries have been the cause of聽“at least two fatal cargo plane crashes since 2006″. 聽The lithium ion ban means you will no longer be able to ship (internationally) items such as smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, mp3 players, gps devices, portable dvd players, and more. 聽USPS states they may possibly lift the ban after January 1, 2013. 聽In the meantime, international lithium ion shipments will have to be done utilizing other means.
