Verizon Customers Wishing to Keep Unlimited Data Must Pay Full Cost for Phones
Yesterday, we ran a story regarding Verizon’s intention to force grandfathered unlimited data customers off their unlimted plan, when upgrading to a new LTE smartphone. In case you missed it, Verizon plans to release new shared data plans this summer. Once those plans are made available, customers upgrading their phones will be forced off their unlimited data plans. Today, Verizon announced there is one caveat, that will allow grandfathered customers a way to hold on to their unlimited plans. In a statement, Verizon Wireless said “customers who choose to purchase phones at full retail price and are currently on an unlimited smartphone data plan will be able to keep that plan”. In other words, grandfathered unlimited data plan customers who wish to keep their unlimited data, will not be able to take advantage of contract pricing on phones, and will instead have to pay full retail cost to keep it.
